Terms of Use for ReadTally

ReadTally is licensed to you under Apple's Standard End User Licence Agreement, which is the agreement that governs your use of the app:

That document is ReadTally's Terms of Use. Everything below is not additional terms — it describes how the app actually works, so that nothing about it comes as a surprise.
ReadTally is made by Joe Villarino, an independent developer.
The Pro subscription
The core of ReadTally is free: adding books, scanning them, logging sessions, and tracking your progress. ReadTally Pro is an optional auto-renewing subscription that unlocks the Insights dashboard.
Plans and price. Pro is offered as a monthly plan and an annual plan. The current price, the billing period, and anything else that applies to your purchase are shown in the app and on the App Store before you confirm, in your local currency. Prices may change; any change will be shown before it affects you, as required by Apple.
Introductory offers. A plan may be offered at a discounted introductory price for a first period. If one applies to you, the introductory price, how long it lasts, and the price it renews at afterwards are all shown before you confirm. Apple determines whether you're eligible. When the introductory period ends, the subscription renews at the standard price unless you cancel first.
Family Sharing. Pro can be shared with your Apple Family Sharing group. Your family members get Pro on their own devices, with their own separate libraries — only the unlock is shared, never your reading data. The organiser is the one who pays and the only one who can cancel.
Automatic renewal. Subscriptions renew automatically. Unless you cancel, your subscription renews at the end of each period and your Apple Account is charged the then-current price.
How to cancel. You can cancel at any time, and you don't need to ask me. On your iPhone, open Settings → your name → Media & Purchases → Subscriptions, or use Manage Subscriptions. Cancel at least 24 hours before the current period ends to avoid the next charge. When you cancel, you keep Pro until the end of the period you've already paid for.
Deleting the app does not cancel your subscription. Cancelling in your Apple Account settings is the only thing that does.
Payment and refunds are handled by Apple. All payments go through Apple's In-App Purchase system. I never receive your card or billing details, and I cannot issue, refuse, or process a refund. Request one at reportaproblem.apple.com.
Restoring a purchase. If you reinstall ReadTally or set up a new device, use Restore Purchases in the app's Settings to get back a subscription you already pay for.
Book information comes from Open Library
ReadTally looks up book details and cover images from Open Library, a free public service run by the Internet Archive that I do not own or control.
That means titles, authors, page counts, and covers come from a community-maintained catalogue and may be incomplete, wrong, or missing. You can always edit a book's details yourself. Open Library may also change or become unavailable, in which case book search may not work until it returns.
Your data is on your device
ReadTally stores your library and reading sessions on your iPhone. There is no account and no server-side copy, which has one consequence worth stating plainly: if you delete the app or lose your device, that data may be gone.
Keeping a backup of your iPhone is your responsibility, and I can't recover reading data for you — I never have a copy of it. See the Privacy Policy for the details, including the two optional features that send limited book information off the device only after you agree.
